Dawny's Cockatoo Challenge

Season 2020/21 sees the return of the Dawny swim, following the refurbishment of the Dawn Fraser Baths at Balmain.

This swim is a journey through Sydney's maritime and environmental heritage.

Two distances offered - 2.4km from Dawn Fraser Pool at Balmain around Cockatoo Island, or 1.1km from the Dawny pool to the island and return.

This is a terrific swim. You wouldn't think swimming in the harbour would be so good, but the water is fine, and swimming through Sydney's maritime heritage, and some of our most impressive harbourside real estate, is a treat, indeed. Harbour swims provide unique perspectives on the city and the harbour. You should feel very privileged to be out there.

  • harris farm logoConditions - They're harbour swims, so water will generally be smooth. Current can be felt when tide is running. Sydney Harbour is much cleaner than it used to be. Harbour water is fine for swimming. Can be an issue after heavy rain, so keep your eye on the weather and on our Stop Press box on our home page.
