The Big Swim

Palm Beach-Whale Beach

The Little Big Swim

A big swim and a big season classic. Around Little Head from Palm to Whale. And The Little Big Swim, a 1km circuit off Palm Beach.

Major changes to this event this season due to Covid-19: There is a cap of 350 entries to The Big Swim, and 400 entries to The Little Big Swim. The two events will have staggered start times: The Big Swim will start at 8:30 am, and the Little Big Swim will start at 11 am.

Check The Big Swim website... Click here... for complete information, then come back here for online entry.

Transport and parking

Remember, parking is difficult at Palm Beach and Whale Beach. Be warned, there is no free parking at Palm Beach or at Whale Beach for this event this season. The new Northern Beaches Council has adopted a different policy to that of its predecessor here (Pittwater Council). Council rangers will be out and will book cars parked illegally and/or overstaying their allowed time. See The Big Swim website for more complete info (link above). Best to car pool and/or use one of the special car parks designated by Whale Beach SLSC, then use the event shuttle bus to get to swim start and back from Whale Beach afterwards.

Some of what you need to know...

Swim start time: 8:30 am (The Big Swim) and 11 am (The Little Big Swim). But be at Palm Beach to check in at least an hour ahead of your event.

The Little Big Swim is intended for novice ocean swimmers. This season, due to Covid-19, it's not possible to do both swims. Note that, should entrants attempt to enter both swims through separate entry, the second entry will be withdrawn and the entry fee refunded less admin fee.

Be aware, there is a limit of 400 entries to The Little Big Swim and 350 to The Big Swim. Once those limits are reached, entries to each event will close.

Under 18 swimmers - Parents/guardians of swimmers aged under 18 must complete the online entry form, not the swimmers themselves. They must include their consent to the entry with full name and  phone contact. Just a phone number, a first name, or a number and first name will not do. Entries of U18 swimmers are not complete without this complete parental/guardian consent. Entries of U18 swimmers must use the parent's email address, not that of the U18 entrant.

Phone contact - Be sure to enter a valid Australian mobile number with your entry online. Organisers may decide to send sms messages to entrants advising of changes to event arrangments. If you don't leave a valid Australian mobile number, you won't receive them.

Fins & Skins

There is a category for a more relaxed, back-of-the-pack type of swim - Fins & Skins. This is available only in The Big Swim. Just select as appropriate when you enter online.

Entry fees...

There is a $20 Covid-19 surcharge added to normal entry fees in season 2020–21.

Entry fees (including Covid-19 surcharge) are -

  • Big Swim 17+ years - $70
  • Little Big Swim 17+ years + - $60
  • Big Swim 12-16 years - $50
  • Little Big Swim 12-16 years - $45

Race day entry...

No entries at all will be accepted on swim day. This season, this rule will be adhered to strictly. This is due to Covid-19 requirements.
