Club to Club Swim, Cape Hawke-Forster

This is a late season classic along a lovely stretch of the lower north coastline. Main swim runs from Cape Hawke SLSC on One Mile Beach to Forster main beach. 500m and 250m swims are circuits off Forster Main Beach. A reshuffle of distances and start times this season, with the shorter swim coming back to 500m (at 8am) at Forster Main Beach, allowing time to swim then to pile onto the shuttle for Cape Hawke SLSC for the start of the longer swim (3.8km) at 9:15am. Meanwile, the 250m swim will run at 9:30 back at Main Beach, providing entertainment for towel carriers staying behind and shorter distance swimmers.

This event reminds us that autumn is the best part of the ocean swimming season: the oppression of the summer air is gone, but the water still is warm. It's glorious on the lower north coast at this time of year. And it reminds you, too, why you get up to this caper. The NSW coastal beaches truly are beautiful. Look above, too, for one of the best examples you'll find of a coastal pool. NSW is blessed with them.

We've had weather issues lately, so awgies have worked out fall-back courses should conditions prove difficult on swim day. They include a 2.4km course off One Mile Beach – which is where the 4.2km Club to Club Swim starts – and a c. 2km journey from Forster Main Beach along the shoreline to The Tanks and return. Both are particuarly beautiful courses.

  • Under 18 swimmers - Parents/guardians of swimmers aged under 18 must complete the online entry form, not the swimmers themselves. They must include their consent to the entry with full name and  phone contact. Just a phone number, a first name, or a number and first name will not do. Entries of U18 swimmers are not complete without this complete parental/guardian consent, keyed in to the Emergency contact field. Entries of U18 swimmers must use the parent's email address, not that of the U18 swimmer.
  • Conditions - The shorter swims are gentle on a north-facing beach, well-protected from the worst of difficult conditions. The 3.8km swim deserves the descriptor of "epic". It starts through a beach break at the east-facing Cape Hawke beach, rounds the headland and heads in on a long westward reach to Forster Main Beach. You will be rolling around wonderfully in swell and chop as you round the headland, but conditions settle once you head west, unless the swell is not from the nor'-east, in which case it will remain choppy in the backwash from the headland. The long reach from the headland into Main Beach will test your patience. At this point, it becomes a bit of a head swim. Wonderful event.
  • Mimimum age - 14 (3.8km), 10 (500m), 8 (250m)
